Providence School is one of the few schools in Jacksonville that can provide a seamless preschool through 12th grade education that incorporates rigorous college preparatory academics, an award winning fine arts program and a competitive FHSAA athletic program in a Christian environment. Whether a student's talents include solving equations or scoring a touchdown, a knack for computer graphics or a scientist's curiosity, Providence helps them discover and nurture those areas of greatest potential.
How do we do that? By surrounding each individual with loving, caring faculty, broad opportunities in athletics and the arts and a supportive "Providence family" atmosphere.
Academics are the core of a Providence education. Over 29 honors classes and 17 Advanced Placement classes are offered at Providence. The teachers instill a love of learning and critical thinking through both core and elective courses. Technology is used as an innovative teaching tool that is designed to enhance the classroom experience and equip students for success in today's technology-driven world. We believe that it is important for our students to develop an understanding of concepts through observation, inquiry, research and discovery. Access to technology and STEM in school gives students greater opportunities to learn, engage, communicate and develop skills that will prepare them for work, life and citizenship.
Students in 8th-12th grade bring their technology to school while students in Kindergarten through 7th grade have access to mobile labs utilizing Lenovo tablets. The Stem Studio provides hands on learning for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Lower school students utilize the Finch and Hummingbird Robotics in the Tech Lab featuring a variety of captivating learning activities. Providence students have consistently scored higher than state and national averages on SAT and ACT scores and have had multiple National Merit Scholarship finalists and semi-finalists.
With 10 state championships and more than 31 FHSAA appearances, Providence School's tradition of athletic leadership is going strong. Providence has 42 boys and girls' athletic teams and offers one of the strongest athletic programs in North Florida, winning District, Regional and State championships. The athletic program is designed to enhance the overall educational experience.
Providence athletes take great pride in how they support the local community, how honorably they win or lose and how respectful they are of their opponents' efforts, no matter what the outcome. Providence players are champions on the field, but they also score plenty of academic points. Every year, Providence seniors commit to play at the college level and some have even excelled to professional sports.
The visual and performing arts program adds breadth to a Christian education. At Providence, the fine arts courses offer students the opportunity to explore and nurture their God-given talents and to share these gifts in significant ways. The combination of expert teaching, student-centered learning and superb facilities makes Providence a wonderful place for students to experience the joy of self-expression and to grow richly in their creative endeavors.
Throughout the school year Providence hosts several performance events including choral concerts, band performances, dance recitals and theatrical productions. Providence students have performed at some of the most prestigious venues in America, including the Biltmore Estate, Disney World and Carnegie Hall. Artwork from students who have competed in various contests is displayed throughout the city and has been on display at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
