United Christian Academy

A lifetime of love, learning and God

When United Christian Academy opened its doors in 1998, the private school in Macclenny had just five students.

This year more than 100 will walk the halls of the academy.

While UCA has a new facility that's led to increased enrollment during each of the past seven years, Pastor Mitchell Rhoden and his wife, Sandra, are even more humbled by the successes — both academically and spiritually – of every student.

"It starts with our name: United Christian Academy," Mitchell Rhoden said. "United, uniting all believers. We're an independent church. That's our heartbeat.

"One of our core beliefs is unity of the believers. For the academy, it's the love that we share with each student.

"We've increased throughout. We have a new facility. We're encouraged about where we are, what's ahead. Now we can hold 100 [students]."

In addition to an education that starts with a 1-to-10 teacher-to-student ratio, United Christian Academy impresses spiritual principles with each lesson.

"The foundation of UCA is the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible," Rhoden said. "It's much more than academics. It's the relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. When you get that in order, everything else falls in place."

The school, which spans kindergarten-through-12th grade, offers elective classes in music, drama, creating writing, computer technology, German culture and photography.

Students also enjoy working with the Baker County community by working with food distribution centers and visiting nursing homes.

UCA participates in the Accelerated Christian Education program, which provides an individualized, self-instructional, mastery-based approach curriculum.

The non-traditional approach has been used for more than 50 years, and it bases its academics on Christian values.

According to ACE, student programs are offered to enhance students' gifts and talents for ministry work both locally and abroad. These student activities include service adventure, regional student conventions, international student convention and educational assistance.

As enrollment grows at United Christian Academy, Rhoden knows Macclenny continues to flourishes as well.

"We have truly been blessed to be planted in this community where we can combine love, learning, and God to the students of United Christian Academy," he said.
